A non-profit organisation is appealing for donations to provide Christmas hampers and children’s gift boxes to vulnerable families.
Margo Johnson, founder of Shalom Community Care Group, says the organisation was started two years ago, feeding the needy in Lotus River. The need has grown a lot since then.
“We started out covering two streets but now it has increased to 11 streets,” she said.
During lockdown, Shalom started the “Lotus River feeding drive”.
“Volunteers hand out from their houses, porridge in the morning, food at night and sometimes sandwiches, depending on donations, three times per week,” Ms Johnson said. “In total, we accommodate about 600 people a day.”
“Any small donation towards the hampers will be much appreciated.”
Shalom is also appealing for support for its dance group, Born to Perform, which needs somewhere for the dancers from disadvantaged backgrounds to practise.
