Keith Blake, Ottery
On September 20, I received a call for help via WhatsApp from ex-Ward 66 councillor Melanie Arendse who requested my help to get trophies and medals for a planned netball event to take place on Sunday September 24, in Justin Road, Ottery in celebration of Heritage Day.
Diamond United Netball club was hosting the event at which teams from all different areas were to play netball against each other.
I was impressed at this initiative and in turn asked for help from Shuwing Liou, the CEO of Ottery, Sable Square and Parow, China Town.
After hearing of what was being planned and realising the importance of such a event Mr Liou met with my wife Tina and Ms Arendse and handed over to an emotional Melanie, two trophies and 45 medals with ribbons.
Mr Liou did not just stop there. Saying that he takes such sporting events very seriously, he took us to an engraver and had all the engraving relating to the event done on both the trophies and all the medals.
