Four men, aged between 31 to 42, were arrested on charges of possession of a stolen motor vehicle, in Lotus River, on Friday October 21, at 7.30am.
The crime prevention unit were busy with patrols in the Lotus River area, and as they approached the corner of Klip and Lake roads, they saw a gold coloured bakkie, driving through a red robot.
Police pursued the vehicle and pulled it over. There were three men in the vehicle and one in the back. Police officers reported that the men appeared nervous and saw that there was no key in the ignition. The bakkie was tested and found to have been reported stolen at Wynberg police station.
In another incident, on the same day, three men affiliated with a gang in Lotus River were arrested after a white Chev Optra was searched in the New Horizon area and a silver Norinco pistol with serial number, a magazine and 13 rounds of ammunition were found.
The men, aged between 28 and 41, were arrested on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm as well as for being in possession of ammunition.
Desmond Maneville, 29, of Parkwood, was sentenced to an effective 10 years imprisonment by the Wynberg Regional Court on Tuesday October 18 on charges of attempted murder for a shooting incident which took place in August 2013.
The sentence comes after a lengthy investigation by the Grassy Park police’s Serious and Violent Crimes unit.
