Against a backdrop of marching soldiers preparing for the opening of parliament the following day, Qarnita Loxton launched her latest novel at the Book Lounge on Wednesday July 17.
Having grown up in Walmer Estate, now living in Melkbosstrand, she described her latest offering, What’s Wrong with June, as a story as an easily accessible read about friendship, patriarchy while also dealing with real issues that face people every day.
Set in Cape Town in 2022, the story revolves around June Cupido and her efforts to reinvent herself. She is safe and comfortable and bored.
Loxton says she has broken away from the much loved Being Series, to write about modern women in Cape Town.
In 2021 Loxton was awarded the Philida Literary Award for literary excellence.
