Christmas and Boxing Day Parkwood streets were strewn with papers and dirt and a resident sent Southern Mail a picture of what Blackbird Avenue looked like on Wednesday December 28.
Ernest Sonnenberg, mayoral committee member for utility services, said the City was struggling to keep the area clean. “The City of Cape Town’s Cleansing Department has been trying to clear the illegally dumped material. However, as soon as the area has been cleaned, residents simply dump more rubbish. Our staff have also been hampered in the execution of their duties by criminal elements.”
Mr Sonnenberg said the City would like to remind the public that dumping waste is illegal. “The City offers a weekly refuse removal service and also has 24 waste drop-off points across the metropole that the public can make use of.”
You can report illegal dumping via the City’s call centre on 0860 103 089 or report it to their nearest Environmental Health office or clinic.
