Clive Jacobs, Lavender Hill
It’s sad to see how our communities within Lavender Hill are destroyed by individuals who are causing problems for their own satisfaction (“Protests against new electricity meters continue”, Southern Mail, October 1).
For the last two months there has been protesting for something that is so ineffective. The majority of the families within the greater Lavender Hill area are dependent on government and local government.
I have seen how people protest and I am so sure they never knew what it was they were protesting against.
I have seen people protesting with children on their arms, throwing stones and toyi-toyi, the dark forces who are accountable for this violence are people you and I know; people that are looking for identity and who are looking to self proclaim.
Real leaders will involve the whole community and will take it out there and form a united society.
Community leaders must not work in isolation when it comes to getting the government’s attention. You need to be strong and relevant and need decent and strong mandates.
It must never be about the individual dark forces who are not man enough to show themselves in the community when children and communities are doing their dirty work.
They isolate themselves from this protest which makes them a conniving source. They attack law enforcement agencies, they rob motorists and they almost killed a woman with her family in a car.
Protesting needs to be done in front of Parliament where those who are responsible for our lives can be held accountable.
When these forces saw that the local ward councillors didn’t acknowledge their protest, they had to know they never approached the right direction.
Do not copy what other communities do. These methods do not work for all communities. It’s in my opinion that you can protest in silence, which is the best method of protesting.
Guns and bricks and weapons are never a solution
