Zone 7 BMX club hosted rounds 2 and 7 of the Western Province BMX points series at the weekend.
The day turned out to be the biggest provincial race for over 20 years with over 100 riders racing for top honours.
The junior divisions were dominated by the local riders Ethan Fondamiere (under-7) Max Boxhoff and Sebatian Nosworthy (under-9 novice), Cruz Hendry (under-9 expert) and Dylan Wiggill (under-11 expert). All of these riders claimed spots on the podium for the day.
The elite category was once again dominated by Wanga Moshani, the current SA number 1.
Daryn Stow once again dominated the cruiser category on the day with George Roth and Rickus Muller on his heels.
On the open wheeler it was all Jannie Munnik from the Kraaifontein BMX club who claimed top spot. The latest race down at Zone 7 was definitely one for the books with riders as young as 3 years old and as old as 50.
Zone 7 feels Western Cape BMX is on the rise and this is shown as rider numbers steadily increase with each event.
Right now the series goes on a bit of a winter break, but riders will be getting ready for nationals in Pietermaritzburg, and World Champs in France, both in July.
