Heideveld cyclists impress at 99er road race

Heideveld Cycling Club members impressed at the weekend’s 26th annual 99er road race, hosted by El Shaddai Christian School, in Durbanville.

The second largest race in the Western Cape and a seeding event for the upcoming Cape Town Cycle Tour, the 99er features 45km, 76km and 95km road races as well as an 80km gravel race.

Heideveld’s Ayabonga Gqamane, who almost had his cycling career cut short following a horrific car accident in 2023, finished in 2hr41min49sec, followed by Duwayne Benjamin in 3hr04mins37sec, Mogamad Aniq Du Plessis in 3hr32min55sec and Bronwyn Liebenberg in 3hr40mins48sec
