Calling all Grade 6 maths whizz-kids to enter maths competition
Durban — The long-term impact of good grades in maths and English are important for all children. The development and strengthening of maths skills enhances lifelong critical thinking skills and teaches a child to analyse, interpret and assess information from an appropriate objective stance.
The achievement of good grades in maths during their schooling career benefits pupils as it gives them the edge when they are expected to be at their best academically in Grade 12.
Completing their schooling career with good marks in Grade 12 enables a pupil to access a variety of career choices and eases their entry into universities. Accessing universities is a challenge, as there are too few first-year student places for many pupils.
Strong maths skills enable a child to enter highly regarded careers such as engineering, medicine, computer science and related fields, which are high-income-accruing careers.
Stellar Maths is a South African Independent Examinations Board (IEB) and Curriculum and Assessment Policy Documents (Caps) tuition programme that thrives on the ethos of comprehensive learning. Pupils who join Stellar have access to a digital app, in-person or online tutoring and hard copy workbooks that reinforce the abstract and methodological concepts of maths.
The system has received positive and complimentary reviews for several reasons:
- It contributes to strengthening skills in maths and English in primary and high school (Grades R to 12).
- It is affordable and accessible compared to similar programmes on the market. There are no international royalty fees.
- The curriculum is South African, which is relevant, will be continuously modified to meet the requisites of our mainstream schooling curriculum.
- There is systematic monitoring, evaluation and assessment to determine your child’s comprehension of the subjects.
- The curriculum is IEB and Caps endorsed.
The centre is in Sunningdale, near uMhlanga, La Lucia, Sunningdale, Durban North and Phoenix.
Their objectives are to aid and develop each pupil to a mastery level, to give them confidence and sound skills throughout their schooling careers and enable them to do well in Grades 11 and 12 as they prepare for life after school.
The centre is managed by academic Dr Sheetal Bhoola, who is skilled in teaching and learning pedagogy. The centre has set out on a mission to revolutionise maths education, making it accessible, engaging and empowering for all.
