Durban - The garbage and litter seen around Pinetown has led the residents of this city to launch a clean-up campaign.
This campaign, called Keep Pinetown Beautiful, was established by a community organisation formed by local residents to clean up areas full of waste. The campaign has been joined by street vendors.
Zane Wallensky of the Keep Pinetown Beautiful Organisation said their aim was to keep the city clean.
“We have cleaned various areas including roads, parks, near the railway, ravines, to name a few. Our organisation is made up of members of different races and ages, but they have the same goal of keeping our city clean,” said Wallensky.
He said they can see a change in the places where they have collected waste.
“We are happy that people respect us by not throwing waste where we have collected it. Another thing that makes us happy is that street vendors have joined us as they clean the places where they work,” said Wallensky.
He urged the businessmen who built this city as well as other volunteers to join the campaign.
“Our aim is to ensure that the city is clean, safe and attractive. We ask that those who are interested in being a part of the campaign check out our Facebook page: Keep Pinetown Beautiful.”
Earlier this month, the organisation’s volunteers collected 300 wine bottles near the forest on Old Main Road. Wallensky said he was happy to see many people showing love and protecting the environment.
He said they collected hundreds of bags full of waste that harms the environment. He urged those who would love to join them to bring gloves, black plastic bags and medicine.
