WhatsApp rolls out new filters and backgrounds for video calls

WHATSAPP has announced that there will be a rollout of new camera filters and backgrounds to make video calls more interesting and cool.

Once released, there will be 10 filters and 10 backgrounds to choose from and they can be mixed to create a fun, unique experience as you connect virtually with people.

“Filters are designed to help you create a more playful atmosphere, whether that’s adding a splash of colour or creating a more artistic feel for your video,” said WhatsApp.

With backgrounds, you can transport yourself to a cosy coffee shop or comfortable living room for a more clean and polished look, while keeping your actual surroundings private.

Filter options are Warm, Cool, Black & White, Light leak, Dreamy, Prism light, Fisheye, Vintage TV, Frosted glass and Duo tone.

While the background options include Blur, Living room, Office, Cafe, Pebbles, Foodie, Smoosh, Beach, Sunset, Celebration and Forest.

The Meta-owned mobile app has also included Touch Up and Low Light options to enhance the look and brightness of your environment if needed, making the video call more comfortable and vibrant.

These features can be accessed during one-on-one or group video calls and can be applied by clicking on the ‘effects’ icon in the top right corner of the screen, showing all the available filters and backgrounds for selection.

Users can then choose the effects according to their mood or preference. WhatsApp says the new filters and backgrounds will be available to everyone in the coming weeks.

Furthermore, WhatsApp is looking into extending these filters to its built-in camera, allowing users to apply the app's filters to photos and videos taken within the app.
