In a remarkable demonstration of mental prowess, 14-year-old Aaryan Shukla from Maharashtra, India, shattered six Guinness World Records in just one day, solidifying his title as a “human calculator”.
Shukla first made headlines about a year ago when he set a record for the fastest time to mentally add 50 five-digit numbers, completing the task in an astonishing 25.19 seconds during the Italian TV series, “Lo Show Dei Record”.
Following this initial achievement, he was invited to Dubai by Guinness World Records and challenged himself further.
During his record-breaking spree, Shukla astonished audiences by completing the fastest time to mentally add 100 four-digit numbers in 30.9 seconds.
Then he dazzled spectators with the fastest division of a 20-digit number by a ten-digit number in 5 minutes and 42 seconds.
He also completed the fastest multiplication of two five-digit numbers in 51.69 seconds and multiplied two eight-digit numbers in just 2 minutes and 35.41 seconds.
In a video showcasing his remarkable talents, Shukla can be seen swiftly calculating complex equations while numbers flash across a screen. His rapid responses match precisely with the device's computations.
According to the Guinness World Records, Shukla attributes much of his success to his daily maths practice, dedicating five to six hours a day to sharpening his mental acuity.
He added: “Sahaja Yoga meditation helps me to keep calm and focused.”
He told the online site: “A lot of things in mental calculations happen in a flash of a second, so I cannot say what happens inside my head ... I just do it naturally. Basically, it’s so fast that you can’t think, you just need to do the calculations.”
Outside of math, Shukla has a range of interests, including travelling, reading, playing video games and enjoying cricket.
Shukla’s mother told the publication: “Since childhood, he was very good with numbers. He enjoyed studying and playing with numbers. At the age of six, he started the practice of mental calculation and he was very good, so we started doing some research on this.
“At the age of eight, we went for an international competition and he won medals and trophies, which were great achievements.”
Since then, Shukla has gone on to become a world champion and is even one of the founding board members of the Global Mental Calculators Association (GMCA).
His father noted: “We are a normal family. Aaryan is a one in a billion kind of person, but I don’t think that we are a family of mental calculators.”
