Durban – Residents from the South Coast of KwaZulu-Natal have been advised to keep their umbrellas next to them as over 60% chances of showers and thundershowers are expected today.
This is according to the South African Weather Service who said that this is to last for the rest of the day.
The Saws Forecaster Wiseman Dlamini said that this includes areas such as Port Shepstone, Margate, Port Edward and Scottburgh.
He said that as for the rest of the province, residents can expect 30% chances of showers and thunderstorms tomorrow.
“As from Tuesday (tomorrow) until towards the end of the week on Friday, the weather looks to be partly cloudy and could be cold in many parts of the province.
Over the past week, the weather service had issued a warning that some areas in the province could experience heavy rains, which could lead to localised flooding.
Dlamini said that there was no warning for this upcoming week, however, an update would be provided as the week progressed.
Meanwhile, the KZN MEC for Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs spokesperson Senzelwe Mzila said MEC Sipho Hlomuka had placed disaster management teams on alert.
He said teams were on the ground and were continuing to monitor the situation in incident-prone areas.
Furthermore, Mzila said that the department was urging all the residents to ensure that they pay close attention to the weather patterns and exercise necessary caution.
He further urged all motorists to drive with caution on wet roads to avoid road crashes and incidents.
Mzila added that there were no incidents reported as a result of the heavy rains last week.
