New Audi A5 teased ahead of imminent reveal, replaces A4 line-up
Audi is getting ready to pull the covers off its new-generation of internal combustion engined products, which could be its last if the company sticks to its plans to go all-electric in the early 2030s.
First out the starting blocks is the all-new A5 family, which replaces the current A4 sedan and A5 Sportback models with a sleek new A5 four-door model, while a new A5 Avant station wagon fills the shoes of the A4 wagon.
There’s no mention of new A5 Coupe or Convertible versions, so it’s likely that these will fall away.
The German carmaker has released a teaser image of the new A5 Avant as well as a preview video showing the A5 four-door model, but we won’t have to wait long to see the new models in the flesh as Audi intends to fully reveal them on Tuesday, July 16.
“The new Audi A5 family will celebrate its world premiere on July 16 and represents the beginning of the next generation of combustion engines, which will be more efficient, thanks to partially electric driving,” Audi said.
We’ll have to wait until Tuesday to find out more about the new powertrains, but it’s looking likely that the line-up will be fully hybridised, with mild hybrid units likely fitted to the lower-rung models and plug-in hybrids featuring prominently at the upper end.
Audi has also confirmed that the new-generation Q5 SUV will make its debut in the third quarter of this year.
The company is planning to introduce 20 new vehicles in 2024 and 2025, of which 10 will be fully electric.
“We have a clear vision for redefining ‘Vorsprung durch Technik’, focused on design, UI/UX, driving dynamics, and efficiency,” Audi said.
“With our new Q6 e-tron, A6 e-tron, A5, and Q5 models, we’re leaving no room for doubt about the direction we’re headed.”
