Table View High hacked by 'k-word' racist
Police have launched an investigation after a racist post containing the K-word was shared from a fake social media account registered in the name of Table View High School.
The Western Cape Education Department says the fake TikTok account has been linked to a learner, 15, at the school, whose personal account is thought to have been hacked.
WCED director of communication, Bronagh Hammond, says the boy’s parents have since opened a case of defamation of character and his cellphone has been handed to the police.
The creator of the account, named @tableviewhighscool, posted a video of a group of learners in school uniform standing on a stage with the caption “We have given all our K@ffers blazers” and a monkey emoji.
The post ends with a smiley emoji and a South African flag emoji and includes hashtags #lgbt and #womenrights.
Hammond says the WCED had made contact with the school.
“The accounts have been linked to a 15-year-old learner from Table View High School, and another in the name of the school," she said.
“The WCED has engaged with the school and has confirmed that the learner’s account has been impersonated.
"The parents have submitted the learner’s phone to SAPS and have opened a case of 'defamation of character'.
She added the School Governing Body (SGB) had contacted TikTok to have the fake account taken down.
“Arrangements are being made with a digital forensics company to get the content removed.
“The school has instructed a lawyer to take up the issue with TikTok with the view of getting the fake account removed.
“It is concerning that 'someone' has purposefully hacked an account of a child, and created another one, with the intention to maliciously sow seeds of division, hatred and racism, and cause harm to a minor and the integrity of this school."
The post received more than 2 000 likes and over 900 comments, including several responses from the creator of the account.
Molikestoes commented: “how has his school still done nothing?” to which the hacker replied: “I’m the principal”.
Another user kkgb27 wrote: “Ur not the principal ur some kid that thinks his cool but is a total average person in real life.” (sic).
Responding to another comment by user khanyanikingmhlaba: “people like u make other good white people look bad too...guys u need to stop this… its totally wrong” (sic), the hacker replied: “I’m actually black”.
Pierreterblanche posted: “do not send him to prison… rather let him do 2years community service in townships..then at least he can serve the people he so hates.. Humble him” (sic), the hacker replied: “Your like 50 bro why are u on tik tok” (sic).
