Soccer team honours killed teammate

Lazio FC hosted a Youth Day tournament at Lapland in Plantation Road.

The community of Parkwood came together on Youth Day, Wednesday June 16, to commemorate the importance of the day as well as a fallen soccer player .

Wits FC and Chiefs FC went through to the finals.

Mikhail “Ballackie” Amos, a Lazio FC team player was shot and killed in the area almost to-the-day a year ago, on Saturday June 13.

Chiefs FC won the tournament.

His teammates from Lazio FC came together and organised a soccer tournament in memory of Mikhail at Lapland field off Plantation Road in Lotus River, with the help of the Rotary Club of Kirstenbosch which donated equipment and food. Children from the community received a warm meal as well as party packs.

Lilian Kayster, Evelyn Collins, Skyler Collins, Rochelle Abrahams and Charne Sapat dished food for the community.

It was a nail-biting final between Wits FC and Chiefs FC but in the end Wits took the trophy. The team hopes to make it an annual Youth Day event.

Children received party packs to celebrate Youth Day.
