Cafda youth conference aims to ’break down walls’

Camelita Manus opened the Jericho walls youth conference with a prayer.

Just like a biblical story about the walls of Jericho, a group of Cafda youngsters came together to break down the different invisible walls that plague their communities.

Miss Cafda Theresa Visagie and Junior Queen Shandrè-lee Jackson of Ensor Street attended the Jericho walls youth conference.

In the story, in the Book of Joshua, a battle was fought to conquer Canaan but the young people at the event were hoping to overcome gangsterism, drugs, gender-based violence (GBV) and other social ills at a youth conference called ‘The battle of Jericho’.

The Assembly of God spiritual dancers performed at the conference.

The event was hosted at the Assembly of God (AOG) in Cafda Village on Saturday December 11, led by Cafda residents Bradwin Daniels from Global Vision Transformers and Michelle Lincoln from Organisation ‘We Can’.

At the conference speakers motivated children to rise above their circumstances and become role models in their communities.

Mr Daniels said their prayer and hope is that gangsterism, violence, GBV, drugs, teenage pregnancy and other social problems fall: “We prayed this not only in Cafda but all over where these problems are.”

Michelle Lincoln from We Can gave meals to children at the youth conference.

He thanked all the sponsors and organisations who helped make the event a success: Marilyn Isaac's community Care, Front Runners, Guardian Angels, Assemblies of God, Siyazana Youth Development, Cape Flats Stories, Parkwood community upliftment, the YMCA Rotary Camp and Son's of Issachar.
