Taking 67 minutes to reach out to the needy

Non-profit organisations in the Southern Mail's distribution area celebrated Mandela Day by giving back to the community on Monday July 18, which was former president Nelson Mandela’s birthday.

Mymoena Scholtz, founder of non-profit organisation, Where Rainbows Meet, in Vrygrond, said their Mandela Day was made extra special by one of their partners.

“They sure have brightened our day by bringing more colour and love into our organisation. Not just by painting, but blessing the children with party packs, vienna rolls as well as gift packs for our youth. AEEI is a great example of the Madiba legacy, where humanity always comes first. We are thankful to have this amazing partner on board. Today was even more blessed to have AEEI together with the community making a bigger difference in the lives of those that truly need it. Together we are stronger.”

Philippi police station commander Colonel Adriaan Saulse and his team spent their 67 minutes strengthening relationships with the community. Spokesperson Captain Goliath Lance Goliath, said: “Building trust between SAPS and the community is of cardinal importance to eradicate crime. Bringing the perpetrators of crime to book, bringing a stop to criminal activities in conjunction with the community is high priority.

“Colonel Adriaan Saulse and his team interacted with communities across the policing precinct by having crime awareness talks and getting inputs from the community on issues of crime,” he said.
