A woman who feeds the needy at the Kraaifontein clinic is appealing for donations of food and other support.
Labeeba Stanley has served meals, once or twice a week, depending on the availability of food, at the clinic in 6th Avenue since 2019, when she founded the Youth Clouds of Heaven non-profit organisation.
“I left my business selling doughnuts and curry bunnies to follow the voice of the holy spirit by reaching out to our community and serving my brothers and sisters who are spending hours without having anything to eat or drink,” she said.
Ms Stanley would like to get a container at the clinic to store her pots and supplies, and she hopes to find someone who can fix the gearbox of the car she uses to fetch donations.
She gets donations from the public and the Food Relief Alliance of South Africa.
Her organisation also runs a youth dance initiative and supports victims of gender violence.
Her next project would help children without birth certificates to source those documents so they could register for school, she said.
Provincial health department spokesperson Shimoney Regter thanked Ms Stanley for helping the patients at the clinic.
“Ms Stanley provides food to patients in our waiting rooms while they wait to see a health-care worker. We are committed to improving the health of all residents, but we are under no illusion that we will be able to achieve this alone.”
