The city council approved the local spatial development framework (LSDF) for the Bellville central business district at its meeting on Thursday last week.
The LSDF guides local planning, urban management, and public infrastructure investment for development opportunities in the Bellville CBD.
Some of the opportunities arising from the LSDF include the improvement of mobility in the Voortrekker Road corridor, the release of vacant City-owned land for high-density mixed-use transit-oriented development such as housing, commercial, and recreational spaces, according to a City’s statement.

“Last year, we hosted a two-month-long public participation process, and we engaged with residents, businesses, local stakeholders and interested parties at two public open days to help us refine the LSDF. All of the comments were considered, and, where possible, we have revised the plan."
The City said Bellville is Cape Town's second metropolitan node with much potential to stimulate investment in sectors that can create jobs, and drive inclusive growth and resilience.
