A resident of the Village Care Old Age Home, in Lavender Hill, celebrated his 100th birthday on Sunday, February 4.
John Cupido was born in Eleventh Avenue, Retreat.
Mark Rossouw, president of the Lions Club of Tokai, said the club contributed a cake and present to the celebration.
He said Uncle John, as Mr Cupido is fondly known, has been a resident at the home for eight years.
“Mr Cupido was one of seven children and all his siblings have passed away. He has been a widower for 42 years and he never had any children. Although he is in a wheelchair he is also still able to walk, he is still in good spirits and of a sound mind. He ascribes his long life to the fact that he honoured his parents when they were alive,” said Mr Rossouw.
