Pupils and stakeholders who took part in the job expo for Cafda School of Skills.
Cafda School of Skills (SOS) hosted its very first career day this past weekend to empower pupils by showcasing various job opportunities and educational courses available to them.
The youth expo took place at the Grassy Park civic centre on Saturday May 18 and featured testimonies from former pupils of the school who have overcome challenges to secure employment in the corporate sector.
The school, located just off Peter Charles Street in Cafda Village, offers different workshops which include hard skills such as woodwork, welding and autobody repairs and soft skills such as office administration, hairdressing, beauty and nail technology.
It caters for pupils aged between 15 and 18 who experience barriers to learning. Pupils are provided with an academic and skills curriculum.
Saturday’s initiative received support from Ward 110 councillor Shanen Rossouw as well as companies and colleges including Cape Town College, Chrysalis Academy, Reynold Unique Panel and spray painting, Soil for Life, I am water and Beauty for Ashes.
Department head Sonia Delcarme said the feedback from business owners was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing a willingness to engage with pupils through job shadowing and work creation programmes.
“We are optimistic that this event will help attract more businesses to collaborate with Cafda, thereby expanding opportunities for our learners at Cafda SOS.”
