South African citizens have just two days left to take advantage of free entry to selected national parks, including Cape Point, as part of the 19th annual SA National Parks Week.
The offer began on Monday September 9 and runs until tomorrow, Friday September 13, with selected parks extended till Saturday and Sunday, September 14 and 15.
To sweeten the deal, Metrorail Western Cape has provided a special transport package for the week.
This package includes a return train trip from Cape Town to Fish Hoek and a kombi shuttle service to Cape Point for R130 for adults and R115 for children.
Metrorail spokesperson Zino Mihi said the train would leave Cape Town at 9am for Fish Hoek, with an approximate arrival time of 10am.
Kombis will be made available to transport those who have made a booking. The kombis will depart Cape Point at 2pm to catch the 3pm train.
SANParks general manager Reynold Thakhuli said South African citizens over the age of 18 must produce a South African ID or a South African driver's licence to enter the parks. Electronic copies are also accepted.
The Boulders Penguin Colony and the Aerial Cableway in Table Mountain National Park are not included in the free access.
Mr Thakhuli said National Parks Week had seen an influx of day visitors in all participating parks since its inception in 2006.
“SA National Parks Week has proved to be a successful campaign that provides education and awareness about South Africa’s inclusive approach to conservation,” he said.
