Police are still unclear about details surrounding the murder of a 25-year-old man whose body was found at a park in Sussex Road, Wynberg.

Wynberg neighbourhood watch officials were on patrol when they discovered the unidentified man at about 9.30am on Monday October 7.

Salwa Beukes, Wynberg East Neighbourhood Watch member, said they were alerted about the body by one of their members who was on her routine morning patrol in the park.

“When we arrived on the scene there wasn’t much we could do because the man was already deceased so we called the police to come out,” said Ms Beukes, who couldn’t give any other details on the circumstances of the incident.

Provincial police spokesperson, Sergeant Wesley Twigg, said an investigation is under way: “Wynberg police registered a murder case for investigation after the body of an unknown adult male was found in a recreational park on Monday October 7 in Sussex Street, Wynberg.

“Police members responded to a complaint of a murder and upon arrival on the scene they found the victim with his hands tied behind his back and his head wrapped in plastic.

“The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation and no arrests have been made.

“Anyone with any information about this incident is kindly requested to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111.”
