Pelican Park High School’s acting principal Shariefa Clark, alongside Mushfieqah Simons, the RCL (Representative Council of Learners) teacher liaison officer, and with a team effort from the teachers, learners and parents successfully raised R10 000 to donate to the Oncology Unit at Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital in aid of Cancer Awareness Month.

“The school increased the Friday civvies fee to R20, with R10 of each contribution going towards this initiative. Parents also generously supported the cause. Our goal was to teach our learners that no matter what challenges we face in life, we can still be a blessing to others. We invited Dr Helder De Quintal, a Paediatric Oncologist at Red Cross, to visit the school so our learners could witness the impact of their efforts,” said Ms. Clark.
