Pelican Park High School “proudly” hosted its inaugural Human Rights Day programme, led by the Child Rights Ambassadors of the Western Cape. Acting principal Shariefa Clark, said the pupils from neighbouring schools came together to engage in “meaningful discussions and debates about their human rights and their right to education”.
Ms Clark said this event gave pupils time to reflect on the core values of dignity, respect, and equality — the pillars of our democracy.
“They also acknowledged the sacrifices made for the freedoms they enjoy today. Discussions focused on the significance of Human Rights Day, strategies to address bullying, and the challenges faced in schools, reinforcing the importance of standing together to uphold human rights,” said Ms Clark.
“We extend our gratitude to Zwaanswyk High, Heathfield High School, and Pelican Park Primary for their participation. A special thank you to the school principals for accompanying their learners and supporting this initiative. By engaging in these discussions and coming together as a united community, we continue to strengthen the bonds that uphold our shared values,” said Ms Clark.
