Crimewrap Police recover unlicensed, prohibited firearms and ammunition

Police officers recovered two firearms and ammunition which resulted in the arrest of two suspects, on Sunday March 16 and Monday March 17.
On Sunday March 16, Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi, Provincial media spokesperson said: “Steenberg police conducted random stop and search operations in their precinct when they raided a house in Elsie Manning, Street in Retreat.”
There was only one man in the house whom they searched and questioned.
He led police to another house where a 7,65 pistol with ammunition and fake gun was found in the ceiling of the house. The man was taken into custody and detained.
On Monday March 17, in an unrelated intervention, police officers were patrolling when they gave chase to a man who fled when he saw the van.
Warrant Officer Swartbooi said: “The police members apprehended the man in Epsten Road in Lavender Hill, searched him and confiscated a 9mm pistol with ammunition found in his possession. They detained the 39-year-old man for the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.”
Once charged, the suspects are expected to make appear in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court.
