Swift police action leads to arrests after e-hailing driver's carjacking in Ottery

An Uber driver was hijacked at gunpoint and his vehicle was stolen, in Ottery Flats, Daniel Avenue.

Two men were arrested and a stolen vehicle recovered after an e-hailing driver had his white Polo sedan stolen by a group of men who threatened him at gunpoint in Ottery on Monday June 16. 

Sergeant Alridge Isaacs, spokesperson for Grassy Park police, said the victim reported the incident and opened a case, with the vehicle being circulated.

“The vehicle was subsequently recovered by SAPS, and two men were apprehended in connection with the crime. The two suspects, aged between 23 and 34, will appear in court once they are formally charged."

  • Grassy Park SAPS arrested a 40-year-old who was in possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition, at Cuckoo Crescent, Parkwood, on Monday June 16, at about 6am.

Sergeant Isaacs said: “Upon arrival, officers entered the house and located the suspect, who was holding a firearm in his right hand. After being instructed to do so, the suspect complied and put down the firearm. Notably, the suspect was wearing a bulletproof vest.”

Sergeant Isaacs said the suspect had a 9mm pistol with 6 live rounds in the magazine. 

“His first court appearance will take place once he is charged.”
