What a perfect time to be able to praise the two men in blue, Sergeant Oliphant and Constable Ntanjana, who attended to yet another act of brazen criminality on our property in Upper Wynberg last week.
When called, they responded even more quickly than our paid security had to the original 10.45pm signal. Their compassion and efficiency when taking our statements lifted our spirits in the midst of an otherwise upsetting experience.
I’ve lived here for almost four decades. So heartbreaking to witness the steady decay of a once-proud and pristine suburb into a daily dumping ground of every kind of refuse imaginable. Vagrancy with associated criminal activity and vandalism is completely out of control. Fields and even houses are set alight by fires lit under trees in public spaces.
However, the dramatically increased service charges and rates for the “privilege” of living here are probably soon going to drive some of us out of our longstanding homes. Where to is a frightening thought.
