Steenberg Crime Prevention Unit arrested a 25-year-old man in possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition.

Members of the Steenberg crime prevention unit conducted stop-and-search operations amid reports of sporadic shooting incidents when they arrested a man with an illegal firearm and ammunition on Monday, August 11.
Police spokesperson, Sergeant Wesley Twigg, said: “They (police officers) apprehended a male suspect on Saxo Street, in Steenberg, who attempted to evade police upon noticing their vehicle. The search uncovered a 9mm pistol with ammunition in his possession.
“The 25-year-old man faces charges of illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition,” said Sergeant Twigg.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court once formally charged.
