A shooting incident on the corner of 5th Avenue and Buck Road, Lotus River, left one person dead and four others injured, while municipal workers were cleaning the streets, on Thursday, August 14, at 9.20am.
Grassy Park police spokesperson, Sergeant Alridge Isaacs, said officers arrived to find one victim dead on the scene.
"Two others had been transported to Retreat Day Hospital by private transport, while two more were taken by ambulance to Groote Schuur Hospital. No arrests have been made at this stage and the circumstances are still under investigation," he said.
Ward 65 Councillor Donovan Nelson condemned the “brazen act of violence,” calling for urgent action against ongoing gang-related shootings in the Grassy Park precinct.
"I have launched a petition and requested a public meeting with Grassy Park police and the Grassy Park community policing forum to address residents' safety concerns. A City venue has been offered for the meeting, pending confirmation."
Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to contact investigating officer Lieutenant Colonel Frederick King at 082 469 2869.
