The Lotus River community day centre (CDC) has officially opened a Youth Zone clinic, providing health services for young people aged 10 to 24, at the launch on Friday, September 5.

The service, also known as adolescent youth-friendly services, supports physical and mental well-being in line with the start approach to lifelong health.

The event was marked with a community event featuring a talent show by pupils and exhibitions by partner organisations. The Lillah Foundation, in partnership with the Western Cape government's Health and Wellness, helped equip the facility to meet the needs of young people.

“We’ve created a space for our youth that offers confidential support for both physical and mental health,” said facility manager Gaironessa Jones, who officially opened the Youth Zone alongside Nasieba Jamie, CEO of Lillah Foundation.

The clinic will operate Monday to Friday from 2.15pm to 3.30pm, offering services including general health advice, mental health support, family planning, HIV and TB screening, counselling, and preventive care.

Ms Jamie said: “We are so proud to be part of this initiative to create a safe space for young people at Lotus River CDC. We are so excited to have been part of this initiative, creating a safe space for the youth at Lotus River CDC. We hope they use the space, take up space, and feel safe in this space..”
