Scores of people from the Save Gilray Committee participated in a Heritage Day awareness walk on Wednesday, September 24, throughout Grassy Park to raise awareness of the old derelict Gilray campsite.
The Save Gilray Committee members, along with the public, were carrying signage going through Victoria Road, towards Prince George Drive, then down Klip Road past the old Gilray campsite.
They also visited Princess Vlei and then eventually ended up at Perth Road Park in Grassy Park, where they also held a Heritage Day braai with the community, organised by the Grassy Park Empowerment Forum.
The Save Gilray Committee has been holding picket demonstrations and collecting signatures in support of Gilray. Currently, the City of Cape Town said the future use of the property is under review. (“Picketing for preservation: The fight to save Gilray campsite,” Southern Mail, September 24)
