The Blue Collar Foundation congratulated Grassy Park resident Bianca Tommy on her graduation with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of the Western Cape (UWC) on Monday April 6.
Ms Tommy, 21, is a recipient of the J.Nevis Bursary, which was launched by the Blue Collar Foundation in 2016.
UWC uploaded a video on their website that listed all the names of each student that graduated from various faculties.
Ms Tommy said: “I was fortunate and blessed to have had a bursary because my family could not afford to pay my fees and my mother was medically boarded because of being diagnosed with cancer. I am happy knowing that in the end I was able to not only make myself proud, but also my family.”
The Blue Collar Foundation, a non-profit organisation, was founded in 2015 by Cape Town singer Jimmy Nevis and his friend, Cassidy Emmanuel. The main purpose of the organisation is to assist in creating opportunities that encourage the youth to dream beyond the means of their socio-economic backgrounds.
The singer praised Ms Tommy, saying: “We are extremely proud of Bianca, she is confident, resilient and hardworking and I wish her the best for doing her postgraduate degrees at UWC.”
