Steenberg police in partnership with the K9 unit visited Sibelius High School last week as part of a drug awareness campaign. The campaign, held on Monday February 25, included an illustration of what drugs can do to children and young people. Steenberg police spokesperson Constable Wesley Twigg said the campaign was started because drug abuse has become a serious problem at schools. Sergeant Alain Petersen of the K9 unit addressed the pupils and after the speech the pupils gathered on the open field at the school for a demonstration of how the K9 dogs work with officers. The station will be hosting more interventions like these at other schools in the precinct.
