This week marks a pivotal moment in South Africa as the Class of 2024 begins writing their National Senior Certificate (NSC) final exams.
Political parties have extended their well-wishes to the matriculants as they embark on this new journey.
In celebration of OR Tambo Month, the ANC encouraged learners to embrace perseverance, drawing inspiration from OR Tambo's lesson that success is achieved step by step, not all at once.
"As these learners take on their exams during OR Tambo Month, it is fitting to remind them of one of President Comrade Oliver Tambo’s enduring lessons to sharpen their focus. Comrade OR Tambo reminds us, 'There’s a point where you must start.
You can’t plough it all at once; you have to tackle it acre by acre.' These words, spoken by OR Tambo in 1953, highlight the importance of perseverance and steady progress in achieving great things."
The ANC acknowledged the challenges faced by the Class of 2024, praising their resilience and determination, which align with OR Tambo's spirit of commitment.
They encouraged learners to carry these qualities forward after matriculation.
Additionally, the ANC urged learners to prioritise their physical and mental well-being during exam time by following practical tips such as resting, managing stress, staying active, and seeking support when needed.
They reminded learners that while exams are important, they are not the only path to success, and multiple avenues exist for achieving their goals.
“As OR Tambo once said, 'It is about taking one step at a time and gradually making progress.' The ANC remains committed to ensuring quality education and supporting learners through initiatives that foster resilience and excellence,” they stated.
The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in Limpopo also shared their encouraging words for the Class of 2024 during their exams.
“The EFF Limpopo wishes the 2024 matric learners all the best in their examinations. Indeed, it has been a very hectic year filled with challenges for both learners and teachers, but finally, the moment has arrived. At this point, learners may feel anxiety, especially since examinations can be emotionally draining.”
The EFF criticised the Department of Basic Education for failing to address ongoing issues like a lack of textbooks, teacher shortages, and inadequate school security, despite repeatedly raising these concerns.
This comes even after the Minister of Education announced that education departments in all provinces are facing financial issues.
“The EFF encourages Grade 12 learners to approach this examination with optimism because their hard work will not go in vain. We call upon parents to continue giving their children moral support and not to apply undue pressure, as this could lead to unfavourable performance,” they highlighted.
Additionally, RiseMzansi wished good luck to the Class of 2024 and shared relevant tips for students to follow to conquer their final exams.
Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi took to social media platforms like X and Facebook to extend his best wishes to the Class of 2024.
He stated, “I take this moment to wish the matric class of 2024 all the best. Your hard work and dedication have brought you this far. We believe in your ability to succeed. You are not alone; educators, parents, and the entire community are here to support you.”
