Police suspect the same vehicle was used in two drive-by shootings, one of which claimed the life of an 18-year old youth, on the same day in the Steenberg precinct.
On Sunday, at 6.30pm, five occupants of a white light-delivery vehicle opened fire on the corner of Peter Charles and Herslett Streets, in Cafda, Retreat, wounding four youths, aged 16 to 18, who were standing outside a spaza shop, police say.
Police found the victims with gunshot wounds to their bodies and legs.
“The victims were taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment,” said police spokesman Captain Richard Marcus.
Later, in St Bernand Street, St Montague Village, an 18-year-old youth was shot and killed and two boys, aged 12 and 16, were wounded when they came under fire in the road from the occupants of what is believed to be the same white light-delivery vehicle.
“The 18 year-old victim was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel, while the other two victims were taken to a medical facility for medical treatment.”
Police are investigating whether the two incidents are gang related.
