Inside the EFF’s third National People’s Assembly

The mood was on another level at the University of Johannesburg’s (UJ) Soweto campus, as Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) delegates arrived in high spirits and singing to register for the highly anticipated third National People’s Assembly, starting this weekend.

This as the delegates from different provinces heeded the call and flooded the campus to register for the highly anticipated conference set to kick off this weekend, at the Narsec Expo Centre, in Soweto.

Issues such as the election of leadership, including who will fill in the position of deputy president amid Floyd Shivambu’s exit to Jacob Zuma’s uMkhonto weSizwe (MKP) party will be discussed.

Other topics include party structures and the party’s preparation for the incoming 2026 local government.

The departure of other members of the red berets to join the spears of MK Party, is set to dominate the discussion during the conference.

In addition, the decline of the party’s performance at the May 29 general elections and being overshadowed by the MK Party will also top the discussion’s agenda.

The scorching heat did not at all stop the members of the red berets from expressing their excitement outside the campus.

Security guards dressed in camouflage regalia were present to monitor the registration process.

As they entered the campus, they were required to present an Identity Card  in order to enter inside the building and register.

After registering, they were given their conference cards, shirts and schoolbags branded with the EFF logo.

Immediately after that, some were seen by IOL News pushing their bags and heading to hotels to rest, ahead of the conference.

EFF president, Julius Malema, visited the campus in the afternoon, to register and oversee the registration process.

His visit to the campus came before he was expected to brief the media on the state of readiness for the much awaited conference.
