MP Party's Visvin Reddy was expelled from the National Assembly (NA) for repeatedly shouting, 'Pemmy must go,' as he demanded the removal of Water Minister Pemmy Majodina in light of the ongoing water crisis affecting both Gauteng and the nation.
The house sat on Tuesday to debate a 2023 petition from residents of Ward 20, Ward 29, Ward 36, and Ward 92, Germiston, Ekurhuleni, calling on the Assembly to investigate water supply in their areas.
The residents accused the City of Ekurhuleni of not providing water.
Reddy blasted Minister Majodina, stating that the issues at hand are not isolated and that her department's failures are depriving communities nationwide of access to water.
Reddy condemned Majodina's management of the Germiston water crisis during a contentious discussion about the water and sanitation committee's suggestions for resolving the issue.
"This Minister is unfit for office. She’s in denial, she’s out of touch and she’s failed our nation. All these GNU parties here should hang their heads in shame.
"They have prioritised positions and power over people. They have more excuses than actual action," he said.
Reddy said MKP would support plans without actions. "We demand real action. These demands that we are discussing here do not put water in the taps of Germiston residents."
Deputy Speaker Annelie Lotriet attempted to declare Majodina's comments out of order, but Reddy persuaded the House to demand his dismissal.
"Pemmy must go! Pemmy must go! Pemmy must go!," urged parliamentarians and South Africans to join the chant. He was then asked to leave.
