Former finance minister Trevor Manuel, who is the patron of the Mitchell’s Plain Bursary and Role Model Trust, and Achmat Chotia, chairman of the trust, have expressed condolences to the family of Rachart Job, a retired teacher, the first education area manager for the Mitchell’s Plain and Philippi areas, as well as the former chief education specialist at the Western Cape Education Department who passed away on Tuesday April 16.
Commenting on Mr Job’s passing, Mr Chotia, former Glendale High School principal, said: “The Mitchell’s Plain Bursary and Role Model Trust is deeply saddened by the sudden loss of our brother and friend, Rachart Job, who passed away last Tuesday afternoon.
“On behalf of our patron and the board of trustees, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Rachart’s wife, Faseega Solomons, and his family.
“Rachart was a very special educationalist who dedicated his life to the learners and schools serving our communities. After his retirement, Rachart’s passion for education and the upliftment of our communities again came to life through his work with the Mitchell’s Plain Bursary and Role Model Trust. We pray that Allah will comfort his family during this difficult time.”
Mr Manuel described Mr Job as a committed patriot who had served his country and community throughout his life. “Rachart Job was a man whose selfless commitment to education will be remembered far and wide, especially by those who had the privilege of working with him.
“The Mitchell’s Plain Bursary and Role Model Trust was fortunate to benefit from Rachart’s vast experience and expertise as a teacher and education specialist.
“Rachart shared invaluable perspectives on the education sector, particularly on how we could better rise to the challenges faced in our high schools as teachers and principals strive to ensure that learners have access to post-school education opportunities.
“We will miss Rachart’s affectionate smile and relentless pursuit of a better future for the youth of Mitchell’s Plain, Philippi, and surrounding areas on the Cape Flats. Our thoughts are with his wife, Faseega, and the entire family.”
