Non-profit organisation Women of Destiny, organised a thank-you service for women. The theme of the event, held at Southern Suburbs Academy in Parkwood, was “Banquet in the Valley”.
Event organiser, Aletta Frans said: “We arranged this three-course meal for our ladies, who come for porridge, food and life skills sessions every day from Monday to Saturday. The aim of the event was to send a message that there is hope, for those who feel that everything falls apart for them.
Ms Frans said guest speakers included ACDP regional chairperson for the South Peninsula Gillian Walker, and the party’ provincial leader Dr Ferlon Christians who encouraged the women “to never give up on themselves, on their family, on your community, or on your country”.
Ms Frans said: “Together we can build a better community for our children. Most of these women don’t have houses, (they’re) living in sacks, unemployed, living from day to day, don’t know what tomorrow holds, so this event was done in aid of those who feel there is no hope, living and taking it one day at the time”.
