In a stunning and historic outcome, former President Donald J. Trump has has declared victory in the 2024 US presidential election, securing a return to the White House after a tightly contested race that captured the world’s attention for months.
Trumped thanked voters for electing him "as your 45th president and your 47th president".
Trump, addressing supporters in the early hours of the morning declared “political victory” and said they had won the popular vote.
Fox News had called the presidency for Trump.
“We all won by the Maga movement,” he said.
With this victory, Trump becomes only the second president in American history to serve non-consecutive terms, marking an unprecedented comeback following his initial defeat to Joe Biden in 2020.
The win caps off an intensely divisive campaign that saw high voter turnout across the US, with millions casting early ballots and Election Day itself featuring long lines and strong voter enthusiasm.
Polling had shown a near deadlock between Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris in several battleground states, but in the end, Trump’s momentum carried him across the finish line, leaving Americans and political analysts reeling from one of the most polarised elections in recent memory.
“Voter enthusiasm is THROUGH THE ROOF because people want to Make America Great Again,” Trump said on his social media platform, Truth Social, early on Election Day, urging supporters to stay in line and vote.
His campaign has framed this victory as a decisive mandate for his return to leadership.
