It was with deep regret and indescribable sorrow, that we, the friends and ex-colleagues of Neville Corker, learnt of his sad passing (on Saturday September 14). He was buried on Wednesday September 25.
Mr Corker served Heathfield Primary School with distinction as a music and class teacher.
During his tenure, he introduced our learners to a music genre, hitherto unknown to them.
Not only was he a musical genius, he was also an artist of note who designed and created the most visually effective props and backdrops for our school's many productions.
He, together with legendary musicians, Percy Anderson and Arnie Bezuidenhout, held our audiences in thrall at our numerous concerts. Neville also willingly captured the hearts of senior citizens with the magic he created on his keyboard, as he willingly took them down memory lane with his extensive musical repertoire.
It was sheer delight to witness the unbridled joy on their faces. Despite his unique talent, Neville remained modest and compassionate, one who was imbued with a generosity of spirit.
Past pupils, Kim Louis, Sheldon Erasmus, Sven Jones, Lloyd Jansen, Dillan Davids and many more, attribute their success in the entertainment industry to his musical expertise.
We, who were privileged to teach with him, will forever be grateful to him for having written on the pages of our lives.
Our gratitude is further extended to his loving wife, Joan, for kindly having shared her remarkable husband with us, even during his retirement. Our fervent prayer, therefore, is that our dear friend, Neville, will find eternal peace, resting where no shadows fall. Humba kahle, Neville.
