Lorenzo Moosa, Plumstead
If I may comment on “Ottery job seekers question EPWP fairness” (Southern Mail, August 28) then I agree with Melanie Arendse.
I’m in Plumstead Sub-council 20. I had a contract five years ago and have been updating my details ever since, hoping to get another one soon but to this day I’m still waiting.
Sub-council 20 consists of five wards and Wynberg is one of them. The problem I have is that people take their applications to Wynberg depo or to people who work there and get a contract the next month whereas there are people like myself who’ve been updating for years and still waiting for a contract. There was an EPWP drive for people to update but because of the unfairness people don’t want to anymore. I called head office and even sent an email to Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis.
The last time I worked for EPWP a few of us were told by one of the heads from the City of Cape town to tell our manager to make us permanent but he refused and said that there are other people who are also waiting for an opportunity to work which I understand.
There is so much that I still need to say so if Kevin Southgate (chairman of Sub-council 18) or William Akim (ward councillor) have something to say they should do their research first.
