We gave dignity packs, holding toiletries, and baked goods to 60 seniors, at the Silverstream Tabernacle church, in Ruimte Road, Manenberg, on Friday December 3.
We chose to donate to seniors in Manenberg because we had heard that they lived in fear and did not leave their homes due to gang violence.
We started a Dignity Pack Drive where pupils worked together with non-profit organisation Carers Unite to raise funds.
The day was filled with laughter and joy. It was a great way to start the month of December.
Youth are going out into our communities to make a difference.
This project that we undertook as a school was one of the best things that I came up with this year, not only because of the handover of the goods but also to see the looks of gratitude on the seniors’ faces.
It's the little things that can make a huge difference. I never quite fully understood the phrase, “it is better to give than to receive”, until we did this handover.
We would like to thank the pupils, parents, guardians and caregivers of Grassdale High School for their generosity and support during the Dignity Pack Drive.
