Help empower youth

Letter to the Editor|Published 2 years ago

Faiqah Semaar, Retreat

In light of our annual Youth Day celebration and the concerning high unemployment rate that increases over time a number of organisations will be hosting an expo, at Jolly Carp, Sasmeer Road, Retreat, on Thursday June 16, from 9am to noon, to educate, empower, Inform and support our youth in this deeply challenging time of unemployment.

The objective is to assist the youth with CV writing, encourage them to either study further and /or seek employment.

Exhibitors will include Carers Unite, a tertiary college, Old Mutual, Timeless Care, Career Smart, Ben Your Friend working with Youth among many more.

The information shared will enable the youth to prepare well and professionally for a job interview.

We are only able to host a “drop in the ocean” number of youth on the day as funds is another challenge to transport and to provide a warm nutritious meal including some refreshments at the event for those attending.

Our outreach communities are Youth from Grassy Park, Lotus River, Retreat, Steenberg, Lavender Hill, Hillview etc. We hereby invite any youth aged between 17 and 35 to attend the expo.

Furthermore, we invite anyone who would love to support us with donations to make the expo extra special, to contact Dawn at 071 672 7044 or Faiqah at 072 869 8430.
