Peter Lakay, Lavender Hill
As crime rises in our community of Lavender Hill Law Enforcement has turned a blind eye and rendered deaf ears surrounding my complaints.
For years my electricity has been stolen and tampered with. Everytime I lodge a complaint with Law Enforcement then my place gets raided for noise. I never got a reference number or received one but have lodged so many complaints to even physically go to the Law Enforcement office in Muizenberg to lodge the same complaint.
The people of number 6 Ashley Court Lavender Hill have been stealing my electricity and still are. I can put my mains off but my power still runs. It has a minus sign on and filled with different numbers on the box. The whole of Lavender Hill know that they stealing my electricity in aid to make me (swak).
In the middle of the night I put on my lights to find it's dimmer than candle light and my units disappear like crazy. I don't have a fridge or any heavy duty appliance. We use gas. I am at number 4 Ashley Court just below them.
This would be my umpteenth complaint to Law Enforcement for years now and I can honestly say that there is no service delivery from Law Enforcement and it's proven we are still in the dark. Our electricity is still being stolen and the “skelms” are bragging about it and then Law Enforcement raid innocent hard working people's homes.
Luthando Tyhalibongo, spokesperson, for the City of Cape Town, responds: The allegation of electricity infrastructure tampering at both No 4 and 6 Ashley Court was investigated by the City’s Public Housing Department and no such evidence could be found.
In addition, the City's Electricity Generation and Distribution Department will visit the unit on Monday August 22.
