Ward 65 councillor Donovan Nelson
Donovan Nelson, councillor for Ward 65, Grass Parky, Lotus River, Parkwood
What an action-packed year it has been. On Friday November 18, I commemorated one year in office as your ward councillor. As I reflect on this year, I realise that community service is tough but very rewarding. Trying to balance diverse ideas and inputs with a limited budget is a skill only perfected over time.
Be that as it may, we have done incredibly well with some of our commitments made to you as our residents.
Our investment in neighbourhood watch equipment was instrumental in curbing the rise of crime in our ward, and in addition to this, we spent over R40 million on the non-motorised transport project, including some road upgrades. A capable government is one that can plan for the future, and that is exactly what we did.
Having said that, we continue to face challenges with illegal dumping and ask that residents please assist us in reporting perpetrators so that we can bring them to book.
I have finally moved into my ward office, which is behind the Grassy Park civic centre and open from 9am to 2pm. Finally, may this Christmas be memorable for you and your loved ones. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Enjoy the trifle.
