Bone marrow registry holds movie night fund-raiser

Staff Reporter|Published 5 months ago

Guests are welcome to bring their own picnic baskets and blankets for the open-air entertainment.

The South African Bone Marrow Registry (SABMR) will hold its Christmas-themed Open-Air Movie Night fund-raiser at the Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden on Tuesday December 17.

The event starts at 6pm with a pre-screening performance by the Ambiance Band.

There will be lawn games for the little ones and a lucky draw with a prize to the value of R2000. The family Christmas movie, The Christmas Chronicles, will start at 8.30pm.

SABMR deputy director Jane Ward said they aimed to raise R80 000 to R100 000 for for their patient assistance programme and donor recruitment efforts.

“At any given time, about 200 South African patients are in need of a stem-cell transplant, but many simply can’t afford the costs associated with the procedure,” she said.

Finding a matching stem-cell donor was like finding a needle in a haystack, she said. “That is why SABMR is stepping up its donor recruitment efforts to not only recruit as many donors as possible, but to diversify the donor pool.”

Tickets can be bought through Computicket starting at R80 for children.

Picnic baskets are welcome, but food and treats will be sold at the venue.
