Despite a third-placed finish at last week’s national high schools championships at Dal Josafat Stadium in Paarl, South Peninsula High School’s Ubay Arend looks set to soar to greater heights says coaches who worked with him. “We might have the next Wayde van Niekerk,” said coach Henry Rhode who along with the school’s head of sport Nasser Orgill, Nicole Esterhuizen and Nathier Gamieldien had worked with him throughout the season.
